What did you think?

Reflect back on all we did with short stories. Reading online, reading from the book, taking notes online, taking notes on paper, discussing, blogging, creative assignments like the skeleton character or story trip. What has been the most beneficial to you? What did you like? What would you change? (keep in mind that you are in high school now and the expectations are much greater) What do you want to do again? or do differently?

what has been more beneficial to me is the story strips. I feel thar is the best way to see the story and reflect on the strory, and also taking notes using the story strip.I would change the formatting of the story strip to give eus an even better understanding of the story. I liked using the cell phones to ring it allows us for a better participation in the class. I would not change that part at all.

I thought that reading online was alot better than reading from a book, due to teenagers these days are much more comfortable with a keyboard beneath their fingers rather than a book.
The most beneficial thing to me was being able to acsess everything from my house, and not having to remember any material objects. I liked all of it, writing on computers, reading, reflecting. It made life alot easier and I was able to reflect on my own ideas with other students. I would like to do it all again, and I wouldnt change a thing.

I liked putting it on Word and highlighting and commenting on it. It made me much more organized. I liked it because I could have everything in one place without taking home more than a USB. I think we should deffinately do it again.

I think that some of the stuff we did was cool with the short stories, but others were "not so cool." The reading online thing is basically amazing because you don't have to bring around a large book and it is easier to read. The blogging was also really cool when we all did it at the same time. I didn't like the skeleton character thing as much because it was kind of hard to understand. But it wasn't that bad. The story strip actually helped with the notes, but I still didn't like it very much. I am going to be straight up honest-The things I want to change is to have no story skeleton or story strip. Also, the note taking on Word was pretty awesome as well. I would like to do that as well as do a blog where everyone is doing it at the same time. That was cool.

I liked reading online because it helped me with my computer skills and i didn't have to lug around a huge book. One thing i didnt like was typing notes because im a slow typer and could't keep up with the class. The most beneficial thing was probably the sticky note questions because they really made me think about what i was reading.

I prefered to read the story off of the computer, and to read on our own. I also liked doing the notes in class, it was more helpful being able to hear other people's ideas. The cell phones were fun, but they got a little bit annoying after a while.

I would change the ammount of time we had to read the stories and to do the assignments that go along with them. With only one night, you couldn't really take a lot of time to think about the story. There just wasn't time to do it.

It would be really cool if we could keep doing the big classroom discussions on different things, they always turn out to be really interesting.

I think that the most beneficial exercise to me was copying the story into a word document and taking notes on the side. Even though my computer at home would not let me, doing it in class was very helpful. Instead of trying to go back and read the story I had similes and metaphors highlighted so they were right there. It also helped me understand they story. I was able to ask questions and write them down on the text and then they would be answered later on. Also the cell phone idea was really creative and a fun way to let people know we had a comment. I would like to do both activities again.

When reading all the short stories I thought that reading online was much easier then reading in a book, because if you didn't finish your story in class you didn't have to lug a book around or check out a book. I think that I also like taking notes better on the computer because they go faster, can be briefer and cannot be lost. I like the creative assignments because they help me visualize and remember things easier. I wouldn't like to change anything yet because I am still adapting to this class and its expectations. I wouldn't like to the skeleton worksheet again because we could've taken notes instead and there weren’t clear instructions on it.

In my opinion reading online waws easier and i liked it alot better than reading from a book becasue i like being able to use technology to do something that alot of people think is boring. I also liked the taking notes online better because you could copy and paste things from the stories online into your notes if you wanted a quote and you wouldn't have to write the whole thing out. The creative assinments got me to think about the story more than jsut being like ok this is what happened so what. These assignments made me really think about what was going on in the story. I deffinitally want to do notes like this again and read stories like this again. But I also think that if we had to read a novel that I would want to read it in a book and not online becuase my eyes would get tired from the lights of the comptuer glowing. There are also not as many destractions just reading a book than reading online with the internet available.

After doing all of our short stories i thought that doing the skeleton page was the most beneficial. I think that because we had to think of what specific part of the story would go in a particular section of the skeleton man. I also think discussing and adding to our notes was a good way of doing it. It helped me understand parts of the story that i did not understand before. We also got to hear other peoples opinions and what they thought. parts that i did not like were, reading from the book, i didnt like having to take home to heavy text book.

I think that cpying the story into the word document is beneficial because I was able to highlight and askquestions as I read the story.

To me, there were good and bad aspects about reading online. I liked that you could go to it anytime and anywhere there was a computer, but I got tired of staring at a screen for long periods of time. I loved taking notes on the computer, becuase you can save it to your USB and take it anywhere, and you don't have the hassle of paper and pencils. I think that blogging is a great way to have people express their opinions, and it's like having a class discussion after school in our own home. I did not like the story skeletons, they were quite corny and seemed like busy work to me. I don't like doing vocab cards. I hate drawing and if we could just define the words on our own, then that would be great. When we do story notes, I think that it should be on the computer. Great way to integrate technology with the cell phones.

I think the most beneficial method for us as high school students is being anle to work on a lap top computer. Most of us have to work out of heavy textbooks which can be very heavy and easily forgetful. What i enjot the most are the stories that we read such as suspense, i.e. The Cask of Amotialldo and the Most Dangerous Game. The only thing I would change is the amount of homeworl we get.

What was most beneficial to me was the literary terminology because we could just read from the story and whenevr we found something that could go on that, we just put that on there and then start reading with more of the story and it was an easy way to take notes.

One thing that I would change is how we get a variable amount of homework. Some nights it's a breeze, but others land me with upwards of 2 1/2 hours. I am in marching band, and most afternoons we practice afterschool until as late as 6:30. It would help me plan better if we had a certain amount of time that we could expect to spend on homework.

The first day of English Mrs. Smith told us our class would be based on the question what matters, to be honest I didn’t really know how to answer that or what she even really meant by it. However answering that question for all of these short stories has helped me understand the concept of the question what matters.
I really liked reading and taking notes on the computer as apposed to a on a sheet of paper. It was much better accessing a story at home from my computer rather then another big text book we have to lug back and forth. I really like the activities that involved creativity. I found that everything we did was beneficial and I would like to do it again.

to me the most benifisiol was readign the story in a word document. Doing the story plots however was also very benifisiul. I liked doing all our work on the computer and the blogs. The only thing I might have changed would be me forgeting some assignments.

I think the most helpful thing to me for the story reading was the story strip because it helped me get the different action points in the right order and in the right category. Also I liked having the option of reading the story on a computer instead of out of a textbook. I would maybe change the homework time to be more constant like what Matt said. I think that the vocab cards are a good idea because instead of just having a definition in your head of the word you have pictures and examples of how the word is used, writteen down on the notecard.

What has been the most benefical for me is taking notes on the computer and reading from the computer. What I liked about it was how not carring around a 700 book everyday to class. What I would do differently is like instead of go over notes in class do it with a group of kids in your class. That way maybe the kids that don't talk alot can feel more comfortable with just a group.

I honestly have to say that I like reading out of a textbook rather than on the computer. I felt that taking notes on the computer is a lot better for me because if i write fast than sometimes i cant read what i wrote, but on the computer i am able to type quickly and it is legible.I would like to do something like this again

I love reading off the computer and taking notes on the story online because you are learning two things at once. You are learning about the story but also how to use technology.

I prefer to read online because I think it is more exciting. I also like to blog because it has helped me understand things and see what my classmates are thinking. I also like to read out of the book occasionally also because if you do things for too long it becomes boring. I dont see anything that I would change or do differently.
