The reason we have grades and the purpose is so we know if we have a good grade or a bad grade and so we know if we have to pull the grade up if it is bad. Learning looks like people that want to learn and that are interested in it. Also, I agree about what Dierdre said that grades are also to show your progress to yourself and to your parents.
The reason why we have grades is so that we can see how well or not so well we know a subject. That way we can see what we need improvment in and what we're ok with. When we learn it looks like determanation, and improvment in grades. You know you know some thing when it just cilks when your asked a question about it.

We have grades to tell how much we know about a certain subject. They tell us when we need to study more and without them, there would be people who decided that they weren't going to do that worksheet they were assigned because there would be no consequence. I think that they also show how much progress you've made. They tell you what you've learned. If you've only learned half the stuff or all of it. I think they are an accurate reflection of how much you know and have learned for the most part. Some people just haven't done the work and they lose points even though they know the stuff. Learning is when you can leave the classroom and say either "That was really good practice." or " I learned something new today." You know if you've learned something when you know something you didn't know before or if you can do something you couldn't do before.
I think that we have grades so that the kids can see how well they are doing in class. It also shows the teacher that she is donig a good job teaching. Grades keep kids doing there homework, if there weren't grades kids wouldn't do there home work nor would they even try. I do not think that grades are an accurate reflect of our learning. Some kids could have cheated to get that grade. When you cheat your not learning anything. When you do a test your showing what you know, so I think that a test is an accurate reflection of your learning. Learning looks like good grades and that the kid did a good job on his home work or test. That is how the teacher knows that she did a good job teaching. I know when I learn something when I do a good job on my tests.
We have grades to reflect our achievement on a certain subject. I do agree with Pat and Cole that grades keep a student working hard. But, I think that grades have become too material. Nowadays, students are more concentrated on getting an A than learning the subject. The thought of an A tempts us to cheat and do whatever is necessary to get that A. The focus is no longer on learning. I also think that grades are not a good reflection on learning because a student might not be good at taking tests, or just doesn't do their homework. That doesn't mean that they haven't learned anything. I think that the focus should be to take pride in learning the subject rather than getting the A. I know that I have learned something when I can reference it en everyday life.
I believe that we have grades to help us see where we are in that class and to see if we need help on anything we have been assigned. Grades make you do the work and be rewarded with good grades, and if you dont do the work you get a bad grade which is a punishment for being lazy. Grades help you see where you stand in the class and they can help you get into the college that you wish to go to.
I think we have grades to meashure the knowledge we obtain in class. I do not, however, think that grades are an accurate reflection of learning because some people just don't do as well in the classroom even if they know the knowledge. I think that learning can not be seen but felt, you feel learning and you know when you have learned something. You know you have learned something because you can think about the knowledge you learned and you can remember it.
We have grades because it shows how well we do in that class and if we understand the material. I think grades are an accurate reflection of my learning because if I understand the material and study and do everything the teacher asks then I will have an A in that class. Learning looks like students listening to the teacher taking notes and not be disrespect ful. I know if I have learned something then I should do well on a test and have a good grade in that class.
Grades are used to measure the effort you put forth in school. They show if you turn in your homework, study for tests, and all those good things.
They serve the purpose of showing how much you are trying and how much you care.
Grades can be an accurate reflection, but not necessarily how much you are learning. You easily could of learned a lot, but of been to lazy to do homework or try on tests.
You know you have learned something when you are able to explain it to someone else and they are able to understand what you're talking about.
I dont think grades are the best way to show how much someone knows. This being true i still think grades are needed because they show if someone is trying usually.
